The winery, Roccheviberti is located within the community of Castiglione Falletto, in the village of Rocche.
As soon as the visitor arrives to the winery, the vision is unique and marvelous; long expanses of vineyards of which are arranged in perfect harmony with the countryside, enriched with the background of a chain of mountains that circles all of the surrounding flatland.
A quality wine must represent the perfect symbiosis of the vine, territory and tradition.
Additionally, the family Viberti is passionate, and has been producing wine for many generations, from every part, the vineyard work and in the winery. We only use French oak barrels for our wines.
The winery exclusively produces wine is a traditional way in respect to the grape growing philosophies and the winery practices. First in French oak, and then in bottle, the noble wines of Roccheviberti rest slowly to allow the delicate flavors and aromas to refine themselves as well as the austerity of the taste.
The aging is done in silence and in optimal conditions to allow an elegant bouquet and complex flavors to develop. In the glass, the passionate consumer can perceive the color, perfume and taste that represents the zone and its territory; the hills of the Rocche in the community of Castiglione Falletto, the prestigious land of the Langhe.
We are located in the most beautiful and interesting zone in the Langhe, in an area only dedicated to viticulture. The clouds and fog in these hills are always considered the best within the zone for grape production.
Actually the winery has 4.5 hectares of specialized vines; cultivating wines of extrodinary potential: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, all of which are autonomous to the Langhe and Piemonte.
Rocche di Castiglione is one of the smallest and most renowned vineyards of the entire Barolo area. Located at an altitude of 300-350 meters above sea level, this “Cru” (Registered Geographic Area) consists of a number of small, steep vineyard properties, and forms a long narrow strip along the side of a very steep hill with an east-southeast exposition. The lower part of this long strip of earth, which is about 1.5 Km long and 60-70 meters high, sits on a cliff (“rocche”) that in some places drops as much as 150 meters to the Perno river at the bottom.
The terrain here is consists primarily of limestone with a notable presence of sand and tuff. These characteristics give the wines of Rocche unique, well-defined aromas, soft tannins, excellent balance, and a distinctive elegance. The vines of Rocche have a median age of about 40 years. This vineyard is dedicated exclusively to Nebbiolo for Barolo.
Bricco Boschis is a vineyard of significantly larger surface area, with Western exposition and an altitude ranging between 200-300 meters above sea level.
Compared to Rocche di Castiglione, the soil here is much richer in clay, resulting in Barolos with more intense color, bigger structure and pronounced tannins, all of which contributes to the wine’s longevity. Roccheviberti has several different parcels within the Bricco Boschis vineyard: in the highest part are plantings of Nebbiolo for Barolo and a small vineyard (“Vigna Malera”) of Dolectto for Dolcetto d’Alba, while the lower part contains is a vineyard of Barbera for Barbera d’Alba (“Vigna Lunga”) and another small parcel of Dolcetto. The Nebbiolo for Barolo vineyards consist of a small section that is about 35 years old and a larger section that was re-planted 5 years ago.
Mariondino is another vineyard consisting of numerous small parcels.
It is situated at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level and its the southern edge sits at the border of Castiglione Falletto and the Bussia area of Monforte d’Alba.
It has a west-facing exposition and is characterized by soil structure consisting of sandstone and marl with veins of sand.
These combined factors create a spicy Barolo with mature ‘sweet’ tannins. The grapes of Roccheviberti’s small parcel in Mariondino are usually vinified together with grapes from “Rocche di Castiglione” or “Bricco Boschis” (depending on the year) to become, after maturing for 15 months in wood casks, Langhe Nebbiolo.
It is possible to visit Roccheviberti winery with advance notice.
Castiglione Falletto is an ideal starting point to explore the natural,
